POSITION SUMMARY:

The candidate is responsible for creating, managing and executing integrated external and internal communications initiatives and activities to help generate positive coverage and visibility that strengthens the corporate brand and reputation among key stakeholders. These initiatives/activities include advertising, content development and social media management.

This position requires strong writing skills, sound professional judgment and discretion, outstanding relationship management and the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate is creative and collaborative and will be a solutions-oriented self-starter with the desire to grow.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

1. Strategy

  • Develop/ update and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with the organization’s vision and goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication initiatives, refining strategies as needed.
  • Align communication activities with fundraising, advocacy, and programmatic goals.

2. Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a communications team, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Develop professional growth plans and provide ongoing feedback to team members.
  • Conduct regular team check-ins as per KPIs and work Plan to monitor progress, address challenges, and foster collaboration.
  • Facilitate annual performance appraisals, including goal setting and evaluation for team members.
  • Conduct regular one-o one with program and functional lead.

3. Content Creation

  • Craft compelling narratives that highlight the organization’s impact and resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Ensure the development of high-quality content for reports, press releases, articles, blogs, social media posts, newsletters, and other materials.
  • Oversee the design and production of communication materials (e.g., brochures, videos, infographics).
  • Maintain consistency in branding and messaging across all communication channels.

4. Digital Marketing & Social Media

  • Oversee the organization’s digital presence, including website, social media platforms, and email campaigns.
  • Develop and execute digital marketing strategies to increase engagement and visibility.
  • Monitor analytics to measure success and inform decision-making and refine strategies to optimize results.

5. Media Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and op-eds to secure coverage.
  • Serve as the organization’s spokesperson when required.

6. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align messaging and support key initiatives.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for partners, donors, and community representatives on communication matters.
  • Track the effectiveness of stakeholder engagement initiatives using tracker sheet, and regularly newsletters and updates send to stakeholders.

7. Event Support

  • Provide communication support for events, including planning, promotion, and on-site coordination.
  • Develop materials such as brochures, backdrops, banners, and speeches for key events.

8. Crisis Communication

  • Develop and implement a crisis communication plan to address potential challenges effectively.
  • Act swiftly and tactfully to manage sensitive issues and protect the organization’s reputation.

9. Technologies Adaptor

  • Stay abreast of emerging communication technologies and trends, integrating them into strategies.
  • Leverage tools like AI, CRM platforms, and design software to optimize communication processes.

REQUIREMENTS AND CORE COMPETENCIES:

Educational Background

  • Graduate degree in Liberal Arts, Social Sciences or Journalism

Experience

  • At least 4 to 5 years of experience in communications, with a proven track record in an NGO or non-profit environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams and managing multi-channel communication campaigns.

Core Competencies

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing tools and platforms.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with media and stakeholders.
  • Adept at managing crises with composure and professionalism.
  • Ability to manage conflicts and mediate effectively.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and content management systems.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) and social media scheduling platforms.
  • Understanding of SEO principles and online advertising.
