Project Title: Nurturing Futures - Skills, Personality, and Life Competencies for Orphan Children.
Location: Union Councils Takhat Pari, Mukhad, Silanwali and Battal
Background:
Pakistan is home to an estimated 4.6 million orphaned children and according to the Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey (PDHS) 2017-18, approximately 3.4 million women are widows, with a considerable proportion under the age of 35 (Government of Pakistan, 2018).
This vulnerable population, including children and widows, are disproportionately exposed to trauma, significantly affecting their mental health and psychosocial well-being. Studies suggest that PTSD prevalence is higher in rural areas, where access to mental health services are limited.
A mother holds immense significance in shaping the physical, mental, and emotional growth of children, it is seen that the majority of orphans face lack of guidance from mothers, which heightened their exposure to various challenges, depriving them of optimal well-being throughout their childhood.
The formal education sector in Pakistan do not give adequate opportunities to children to acquire vocational skills, leading to unemployment and increased vulnerability (International Labor Organization, 2020). majority of children are under the age of 17.
Therefore, it is imperative to provide these children with personality development, vocational skills, life skills, and character building to enhance their socio-economic well-being and enable them to lead productive lives.
Empowering vulnerable children with vocational skills, life skills, and character building is crucial for their holistic development, socio-economic stability, and future prosperity.
