Lady Health Visitor (LHV)

Number of Positions: 01

Based in Peshawar

Contract Period: 2 months (extension subject to availability of funds)

Main Purpose:

 

The LHV will be responsible to assist the Medical Officer In-charge of Basic Health Unit in conducting a daily OPD by registering patients and taking their vitals, preparing ANC and growth monitoring cards, providing ANC/PNC services and neonatal resuscitation and postpartum follow up of women. She will conduct a safe & clean delivery and enter all required data into the relevant registers. In case of a high-risk pregnancy, she will immediately refer the case to a higher-level healthcare facility for specialized care with proper documentation and informing the patient/caregivers for the reason of referral. She will conduct awareness raising sessions on health, hygiene and nutrition to improve the health and nutritional status of the targeted communities/groups. She will maintain all relevant registers/forms/cards at health facility.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Female Medical Officer in conducting daily OPD by registering patients and taking their vitals.
  • Ensure all required medical equipment is present in OPD is in a working condition.
  • Prepare Antenatal Cards and guide and sensitize women on importance of regular check-ups.
  • In case of a high-risk pregnancy/delivery, refer the case to a higher-level health care facility for specialized care following standard referral protocols.
  • Advise and refer pregnant women to the EPI canter for TT vaccination.
  • Ensure all pregnant women are screened for malnutrition and guide them on nutritional needs during pregnancy.

  • Regularly update and maintain all the relevant data of patient (s) in OPD and Labor Room registers.
  • Ensure labor room is thoroughly clean to conduct a delivery all required equipment is present and properly sterilized.
  • Conduct safe and clean normal delivery as per WHO guidelines.
  • Keep delivered woman under observation for postnatal care at health facility.
  • Ensure a delivered woman initiates breast feeding within first hour of delivery.
  • Disseminate information to delivered women on importance of breast feeding, routine vaccination of child under immunization program, care of baby’s cord, mother & newborn hygiene, and nutrition of mother during postnatal period.
  • Ensure after delivery, female cleaner has thoroughly cleaned the labor room, washed and sterilized all used equipment.
  • On arrival at BHU, take a proper charge of medicines, consumables, kits and cleaning items from the night duty LHV.
  • On arrival at duty, take a quick round of OPD room and labour room to ensure that female cleaner has properly cleaned them.
  • Ensure all required medicines, consumables and kits are available in a sufficient quantity in labor room.
  • Participate in capacity strengthening trainings organized by the organization or any other partner organization to enhance her technical knowledge and skills.
  • Attend staff meetings convened at health facility/project office.
  • Respect and follow proper chain of command and communication lines within the organization.
  • Do not leave the duty station without informing FMO or Area Coordinator.
  • In case of any incident/emergency immediately inform the FMO or Area Coordinator.
  • Accomplish any other job-related task assigned by the Supervisor (s).

 

Required Qualification/Skills:

 Essential:

  • Diploma of Lady Health Visitor (LHV) from a government recognized Institute.
  • Valid registration with Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC).
  • Fluently understands and speaks Pashto and Urdu.
  • Able to conduct a delivery independently.
  • Working Experience as an LHV for at least four (04) years with an INGO.

Desirable:

  • Additional qualification/trained in BEmONC, IMNCI and CMAM is desirable.
